Program description

The MArch: Architecture programme at Central Saint Martins critically questions the architect’s role in the face of climate and biodiversity crises, challenging the extractive systems that perpetuate social and environmental injustice. While providing a professional pathway to registration, it asks how architects can move from complicity to actively regenerating the environment.

Care and ethical awareness are central, shaping a pedagogy built on support, collaboration, empathy, and dialogue, and underpinning regenerative design methods that restore places and systems. The course breaks open dominant teaching practices by centring students’ lived experiences and subjectivity, creating inclusive spaces where race, gender, equity, and intersectionality inform design projects.

Through collaboration with local users, other disciplines, and external partners, the programme empowers human and non‑human stakeholders as active agents. Situated in an art school, it offers a rich, multidisciplinary environment for responding critically to these challenges through research, knowledge exchange, and design intervention.
