Program description
The MA Costume for Performance at London College of Fashion is a flexible, forward-looking course designed to develop agile and experimental practitioners.
It situates costume within broader cultural debates, using the body as a platform to explore ethical, social, and ecological narratives. The curriculum embraces technological advancements and upholds principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and diversity. Students learn to challenge traditional practices through conceptual development and specialised realisation for live performance, screen, and digital media. The program integrates thinking and making, equipping graduates to articulate costume's distinct value and push the boundaries of the discipline.
Program structure
Block 1: EXPLORE - seeks to support students to make the transition to postgraduate level study through the following units:
- Costume for Performance (40 credits)
- Costume in Context (20 credits)
Block 2: SITUATE - expresses the shift from orientation and exploration of the discipline to a position of affirming your own interests and specific direction, within the context of your discipline and beyond, through the following units:
- Costume for Screen (40 credits)
- Electives (20 credits)
Block 3: INTEGRATE - seeks to express the principle of a culmination of theory and practice acquired throughout Block 1 and 2 which is expressed through the Master’s Project, working towards innovation and future practice beyond the course.

- 30,890 GBP per education*
*Tuition fees may increase in future years for new and continuing students on courses lasting more than one year. For this course, you can pay tuition fees in instalments.

Requirements for applicants
The standard entry requirements for this course are as follows:
- An Honours degree at 2.1 or above in a related discipline. Applicants with a degree in another subject may be considered, depending on the strength of the application;
- OR Equivalent qualifications;
Applicants who do not meet these course entry requirements may still be considered in exceptional cases.
The course team will consider each application that demonstrates additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by:
- Related academic or work experience (for a minimum of three years)
- The quality of the personal statement
- A strong academic or other professional reference
- OR a combination of these factors
Each application will be considered on its own merit but we cannot guarantee an offer in each case.
English Language Requirements
- IELTS level 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
