Program description
The MA Fine Art: Computational Arts programme at Camberwell College of Arts explores emergent digital processes and experimental modes of practice, supporting creative work through critical analysis, reflection, and contextualisation. It encourages you to develop your own methods for critically engaging with technology and to explore innovative ways of presenting digital art.
The course fosters a diverse, open-minded community and is committed to widening accessibility through inclusive approaches and hybrid media, valuing experimentation and inclusivity in the use of emerging technologies.
Program structure
- Unit 1: Locating Practice within Specialism
Introduces Camberwell's research culture, encouraging independent experimentation to test ideas and expand technical skills through practice-based methodologies. You will debate key developments in Computational Arts, engage in cross-pathway lectures, and document your studio practice for assessment, supported by professional skills development.
- Unit 2: Testing Beyond Specialism
Builds on feedback to deepen your research and define your creative processes through peer learning and engagement with current debates. You will test your work in crits and exhibitions, develop critical writing skills, and begin preparing a coherent body of work for the MA Show, submitting a final body of work and research file for reflection.
- Unit 3: Making Public
Involves exhibiting your work in a public exhibition to gather feedback, with the option to pursue a professional project or critical writing. You will collaborate across Fine Art pathways on a public research programme, present your ideas in various formats, and submit a resolved body of work with contextual research, while developing an online presence to showcase your practice.
