Program description
The MA Interaction Design at London College of Communication fosters experimental and interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of technology and pressing global issues. Students explore the critical role of digital and networked technologies in relation to the anthropocene, climate crisis, and social and economic inequality.
The program defines interaction design as creating objects, spaces, and experiences that instigate new relations between humans, environments, and systems. Through this lens, students learn to provoke imagination, discussion, and critique on topics like digital privacy and ecological responsibility. A strong emphasis is placed on developing one's own voice as a critical practitioner through an integrated approach to applied critical thinking. The curriculum builds practical skills in interaction design, physical computing, creative coding, and various media forms. It also incorporates research methodologies from critical design, post-human centred design, feminist and decolonial theory, and speculative design. Ultimately, the course empowers students to combine these technical skills and critical frameworks into unique, impactful forms of design practice.
