Program description
The MA Visual Effects programme at London College of Communication is taught as a specialist subject within the broad field of animated visual communication, exploring the theoretical and historical contexts that shape audience perceptions of reality and photorealism. You will be introduced to a range of technical and conceptual VFX approaches, producing short‑form animation to set briefs and grounding virtual 3D work through real‑world studio lighting and camera workshops.
As a student, you are encouraged to become a boundary‑pushing specialist, developing high‑end skills and a distinct style while creating unique media and immersive experiences. Benefiting from London’s world‑leading VFX community, you will attend lectures and masterclasses from visiting professionals and learn to translate principles of lighting, shot framing, and lensing into the digital realm. The course also supports progression to MPhil/PhD research or advanced self‑directed practice.

Requirements for applicants
This educational level may be demonstrated by:
- Honours degree (named above);
- Possession of equivalent qualifications;
- Prior experiential learning, the outcome of which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required;
- Or a combination of formal qualifications and experiential learning which, taken together, can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required.
Applicants who do not meet these course entry requirements may still be considered in exceptional cases.
The course team will consider each application that demonstrates additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by:
- Related academic or work experience
- The quality of the personal statement
- A strong academic or other professional reference
- OR a combination of these factors

Language Requirements
- IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) is requires, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four skills.
