Program description
In Western Australia, the sole degree of this kind is the Bachelor of Art History and Curatorial Studies. By fusing curatorial techniques with art history, this degree prepares students for employment in art management, museum and gallery curation, and art criticism and research.
Critical thinking, visual and spatial analysis, and oral and written communication are all taught in this degree, which focuses on art history and curatorial applications. With its international study options, industrial internships, and object-based learning, this degree promotes art history through practical application and interaction with exhibitions and curatorial organizations. It examines the history of art and exhibitions from the early modern era to the 19th and 20th centuries, from Beijing to Paris, Papunya to Bidydanga. The unit provides students with a foundational understanding of the creation and display of art to support scholarly and curatorial discussions. Students gain experience writing critical reviews and suggestions for exhibitions. Students who complete the training are thus ready to work both individually and for collecting and exhibiting organizations.
Honors degrees make it possible to pursue postgraduate work overseas or at the master's or doctoral levels. Graduates attend universities in the United States and England and work at museums and art galleries in Australia.
