Program description
From the creative writing and performance studies to the extensive history of western literary tradition, this dynamic major allows students to personalize their education according to their interests and future job goals. The works of great western literary figures like Shakespeare, Austen, and Woolf—who have had a profound impact on our modern imaginations—are the focus of our units. Units within the major also examine the fascinating ways literature functions in our increasingly globalized society. Creative writing, in which students create original works of literature, screen and performance studies, which investigate texts in non-textual media, and the study of gender, race, and class in everyday life through textual and imaginative mediation are other important components of the major.
