Program description

Indigenous Knowledge, History, and Heritage is an interdisciplinary major that teaches Indigenous Australian history, culture, and philosophy. Indigenous philosophy will be examined.

The units allow you to critically engage with themes across disciplines and connect to contemporary Australian societal issues. The major provides a solid foundation in Aboriginal knowledge systems and Western disciplinary frameworks about Indigenous peoples.

The main idea is to let students critically interact with Aboriginal voices. The major will be taught interactively with Indigenous people, community Elders, and other speakers.

The course involves fieldwork, intensives, and experiential activities. Community and family histories, art, poetry, and movies will all be covered. Indigenous knowledge is applicable to all subjects and disciplines because it offers a new perspective on the world.
