Program description

Your ability to use your imagination to independently and creatively approach modern concerns is enhanced by majoring in integrated design. Since design is a speculative discipline, the creation of drawings, models, and prototypes using various technologies and techniques heavily relies on imagination. You will collaborate on diverse projects with a range of people as part of the creative process. Examining design communication and sustainable design, as well as taking into account pertinent historical and ethical design-related issues, all promote practical research. You will gain from UWA's investments in state-of-the-art technology for model-making and prototyping, such as 3D model makers, laser cutters, "maker-bots," and a well-equipped workshop.

Program structure

In addition to the core units outlined for this major, students undertaking Integrated Design as a degree-specific major are strongly encouraged to enhance their knowledge and expertise by taking units in the areas of Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Fine Arts. If not already taking a second major, there are a number of highly desirable design electives. More advice can be sought from the Design and Education Student Office.
