Program description

This Extended Major leads to entrance to the DPM master's program and a career in podiatry. This course prepares students for the entry-to-practice DPM exam with professional and clinical skills.

This course covers basic podiatry and pre-clinical biological health sciences skills. Students will study anatomy, physiology, genetics, immunology, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, and public health. These fields interconnect throughout the course. Clinical communication, professional content, and research skills are taught throughout the major. It will include the health of migrants, refugees, and Aboriginal people, among other aspects of Australian society and culture. Pre-clinical practical podiatry training and podiatrist basics are also covered in this course.

This major requires a strong biological and medical background, with an emphasis on podiatric health science and lower extremity anatomy and physiology. Students will improve their clinical skills by practicing podiatric clinical skills in realistic and virtual clinical laboratories.
