Program description

You will gain historical knowledge, analytical prowess, and the ability to articulately critique visual form through this major's examination of the making, receiving, and moving of art objects through different cultures and time periods. If you want to know how art has influenced the development of ideas throughout history, developing your visual literacy is a great place to start. Artists' representations of religion, politics, culture, and identity in their works can provide light on these topics.

European, American, Asian, and Australian visual traditions are the primary foci of the major, which spans a broad spectrum of time periods and media, from the Renaissance to modern performance art.
