Program description
Position along the vast Western Australian coastline is what sets this combined course at UWA apart. From the South Coast's unspoilt rocky reefs and beaches to the Pilbara and Kimberley areas' coral reefs, we're spoilt for choice. Because of its variety, the ocean serves as a great natural laboratory for oceanography and marine science research.
The Bachelor of Marine Science program provides students with the chance to learn by doing, both in the lab and out in the field, using real-world data sets. Coastal responses to climate change and sea-level rise, ocean acidification, and marine heatwaves are just a few of the urgent issues that our oceans and coastal areas are currently facing. The Master of Oceanography program provides the chance to gain expert knowledge and practical experience in these areas, preparing you to tackle these and many more.
After three years, you can get a Bachelor of Marine Science (Advanced) degree and leave the CBM if you don't want to continue. Keep in mind that only as an exit award from CBM is the Advanced Bachelor Degree accessible. Neither is it granted upon successful completion of the CBM, nor is it available for immediate enrollment.
Program structure
In your first three years, you'll complete the Marine Science (extended major) and a semester of postgraduate study. You will then complete your selected units in the Master of Oceanography.
