Program description

The Earth's ecology and natural resources are under increasing pressure from both rising incomes in wealthy nations and populations in less developed nations.

You will learn how to assist society make better decisions to safeguard the environment by applying scientific, economic, policy, and social analysis as an Environmental Management student.

Program structure

Level 1

Core (take all units — 24 points):

  • ECON1120 Environmental Economics 1 (6)
  • ENVT1104 Environmental Science and Technology (6)
  • SCIE1104 Science, Society and Data Analysis (6)
  • SCOM1101 Communicating Science (6)

Bridging units must be successfully completed within the first 48 points of study. Students who have not achieved a scaled mark of at least 50 in Mathematics Methods ATAR or equivalent or higher are required to complete SCIE1500. Students who have not achieved a scaled mark of at least 50 in Mathematics Applications ATAR or equivalent or higher are required to complete MATH1720 and SCIE1500. Note: Students who have completed MATH1721, are not required to complete SCIE1500.

Level 2

Core (take all units — 24 points):

  • ECON2224 Environmental Economics 2 (6)
  • ENVT2221 Global Climate Change and Biodiversity (6)
  • GEOG2201 Geographic Information Systems (6)
  • SCIE2267 Quantitative Methods in Environmental Management (6)

Level 3

Core (take all units — 24 points):

  • ECON3323 Business and the Environment (6)
  • ENVT3362 Environmental Dynamics (6)
  • GEOG3301 Advanced GIS and Remote Sensing (6)
  • GEOG3303 Environmental Policy and Planning (6)

Price

  • Tuition fee — 49,200 AUD per year.

A standard full time enrolment of 48 points per year equals 1 EFTSL (1 EFTSL is the Equivalent Full Time Study Load). If you enrol in more or less than 48 credit points per year, your yearly annual fee may be different. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and are subject to increase, as outlined in the UWA Acceptance Contract.

Requirements for applicants

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have

  • achieved an ATAR of at least 75, or equivalent as recognised by UWA or
  • an assured pathway offer or
  • achieved a score of at least 100 in UWA's experienced based entry assessment or
  • a place in a relevant UWA access program.

Mathematics requirement

This major requires a certain level of Mathematics. If you do not meet this level, you may be able to take additional Mathematics units in your first year to satisfy this requirement.

WACE prerequisite: Mathematics Methods ATAR

English competency

  • Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
