Program description

Through partnerships with UWA museums and other public galleries in Western Australia, the degree program gives students hands-on experience in curatorial research and exhibition presentation.

This course requires students to either prepare a dissertation (at least 30,000 words) on a topic related to museology that is relevant to curatorial practice, a comprehensive publishable catalogue raisonné (up to 30,000 words) of the works of an uncatalogued artist, or a fully researched proposal for a major exhibition (at least 5000 words) and a fully publishable professional catalogue that includes an essay on all works proposed for exhibition (at least another 25,000 words).

Additionally, students finish a placement at a public gallery and write a comprehensive comparison report (up to 5000 words) about it.

Requirements for applicants

Qualifications equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with at least upper second class honours. Students without appropriate undergraduate qualifications are required to do preliminary work.

English competency

  • Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
