Program description

You will be able to learn how to analyze geological and geophysical data and integrate datasets associated with energy geoscience and sedimentary basin studies in this course. During coursework and research project components of the course, the focus is on developing practical skills supported by conceptual knowledge and applying both to solve basin history and petroleum exploration challenges.

With a focus on using conceptual knowledge to solve problems pertaining to petroleum exploration and basin history through coursework and a research project, practical skills are developed.

You'll have the chance to learn sophisticated techniques for analyzing geoscientific data using the newest digital technology, access industry datasets and tools, and listen to industry experts provide guest lectures. This course focuses on the information and abilities needed to address practical issues in energy geoscience.

Option

For students in course by coursework only, take units to the value of 48 points, including at least 30 points at Level 5. The 30 points at Level 5 may include up to two options, chosen as substitutes, from related areas, as approved by the School. For students in course by coursework and dissertation, take units to the value of 24 points including at least 6 points at level 5.

Requirements for applicants

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have

  • a Bachelor of Geology, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA;
  • the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent.

English competency

  • Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
