Program description
The AUDRC Master of Urban Design program teaches urban design theories, urban analytic tools, and city and urban development skills. History, theory, implementation strategy, and studio-based learning dominate the first year. The second year includes Landscape Design or GIS coursework or independent supervised study (research dissertation).
After earning a Master of Urban Design, you can work at all levels of urban design, but especially as a lead consultant producing and reviewing urban design proposals. This program is popular with state and municipal planning and development agencies and private planning, architectural, and landscape design firms.
Program structure
Students can choose from three pathways to complete this course:
- Coursework Only (Geographic Information Systems Focus Area)
- Coursework Only (Landscape Design Focus Area)
- Coursework and Dissertation

Requirements for applicants
To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have
- a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA
- the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent
- successfully completed prior study in a field relevant to Urban Design;
or
- completed a Graduate Certificate in Urban Design or Graduate Diploma in Urban Design at UWA.
English competency
- Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
