Program description
Vancouver Film School has collaborated with Sony’s Pixomondo (PXO) to provide a 12-week online certificate program for seasoned artists to enhance their expertise in the foundations of content creation for virtual production. PXO is a distinguished, multi-award-winning VFX and Virtual Production firm, recognized for its contributions to productions such as Game of Thrones, The Boys, House of the Dragon, among others.
Sony's Pixomondo program will educate students to become proficient Virtual Art Department Artists by immersing them in Unreal Engine and Virtual Production methodologies. PXO’s VAD program instructs students in the use of essential technologies to create virtual worlds and assets for film and television productions, equipping them for projects that include LED Walls.
Upon completion of the program, students will get an online credential in virtual production and will have acquired the necessary skills to embark on a career as a VAD Technical Artist, VAD Generalist, UE Technical Artist, VAD Concept Artist, UE Generalist, or UE Lighter.
Program structure
The curriculum consists of three courses spanning 12 weeks (100 hours):
- Core Techniques in Visualization
- Virtual Production Content Creation
- Unreal Performance Optimization

Tuition fee for international students: 9,475 CAD per program
Requirements for applicants
Specifications:
- Windows PC capable of operating Unreal Engine and conferencing software
- Internet connection with a minimum download speed of 50 Mbps and a minimum upload speed of 10 Mbps
- Ethernet (wired) connection is recommended
- Dual monitor configuration is recommended.
This program will run on the Microsoft Operating System; instructors will only provide assistance with Microsoft-related technical concerns, notwithstanding the possibility of using alternate operating systems
Prerequisites:
- Basic understanding of Unreal Engine.
- Good understanding of DCCs like Maya, Houdini, Max, Blender, etc.
Access to Unreal Engine will be granted during the program
