Program description

Many professionals and students benefit greatly from having a solid understanding of how many cultures and practices are woven into the fabric of business, politics, and society.

Students at the undergraduate and graduate levels can study international relations to gain a better understanding of the intricate interrelationships among the various institutions of global government.

Students who complete the course will be able to:

  • Show that you are well-versed in the core concepts and theories of international relations.
  • Recognize and understand the roles played by the most important international players and institutions.
  • Observe the world from a different perspective than their own.
  • Present yourself as someone who is knowledgeable about other cultures and languages.

  • Introduction to International Relations
  • Introduction to Political Theory or International Relations Theory
  • Introduction to Comparative Politics or Introduction to American Politics or Politics in the Industrialized World or The Politics of the Developing World
  • Methods of Political Inquiry or Research Methods and Approaches in Political Science
  • INTL 1500 The World System since 1500
  • A 2000-level or above HIST course with an international focus
  • Three of the following sub-field courses :
    • International Law
    • International Political Economy
    • Conduct of Foreign Policy 
    • International Security
    • Environmental and Energy Security
    • International Organizations: Structure and Political Conflict
  • Research Requirement
  • Overview 
  • Electives (15 hours, 9 of which must have an international focus)

Required Courses for the Emphasis in Migration and Refugee Studies

Students in Geneva may elect an emphasis in migration and refugee studies by fulfilling the above core requirements for international relations and by structuring five of their elective courses around the following list:

  • Issues in Contemporary Society: Sociocultural Factors Behind Migration and Refugee Movements
  • Refugee and Migration Movements
  • Politics of the Developing World
  • Comparative Politics (subtitled Refugee and Migration)
  • Advocacy, NGOs, and Civil Society
  • Advanced Studies in International Law (subtitled International Refugee Law)
  • International Economics
  • International Relations Seminar (subtitled Refugee and Migration Studies)
  • Field Experience

Fee for two semester (1 year education) is 31450.00 USD for international students.

  • Student activity fee (St. Louis campus, full‐time flat fee students only, per semester)- $150

Some classes may include laboratory fees and may vary per class

Requirements for applicants

  • An official high school transcript from the last high school attended or from a home school program. All transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • Official transcripts from all college-level credit courses obtained while in high school.
  • Webster University is a test-optional university.

Furthermore, the Office of Admission, when it deems necessary, reserves the right to request the following additional documents when considering a student for admission:

  • A résumé of school and community activities, including offices held and awards received.
  • One letter of recommendation.

Instead of submitting English Proficiency Scores from Duolingo, TOEFL, or IELTS, students can demonstrate English proficiency by:

  • Successfully complete at least one academic year of high school or college-level coursework in English by a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (Note: ESL coursework does not apply to this exception) within the past two years.
  • Successfully complete ELS Language Center's “English for Academic Purposes” or ELS Language Center “Level 112.” Students will need to show the Graduation Certificate for either of the classes.
  • Successfully complete the University of Central Florida's Center for Multilingual Multicultural Studies (CMMS) Intensive English Program. Students will need to show the completion certificate.
