Program description
The Department of Music was established by a foundation university in 2008, making it the first music department in the Aegean region. The department, which also includes the Yaşar University Chamber Orchestra, was designed according to an institutional model in which students receive a practical education while also developing academically and culturally. Students progress through this implementation model to play as soloists or in accompaniment, and eventually become performing members of the orchestra. The department began offering Stringed Instrument training, both Graduate and Proficiency programmes, in 2009, and the Piano - Guitar Graduate programme was introduced in 2010. In 2011, the Music Department launched Turkey's first "Student Focused" music education programme. The department has instrument practise rooms available for one-on-one tutorials, sound proofed classrooms, studios, recording areas, and a concert hall for performances to support students in their training and give them every opportunity to excel in their practical and theoretical courses. The concerts given by the Yaşar University Chamber Orchestra and Music Department students are filmed and broadcast live on the internet using cutting-edge high-definition digital broadcasting technology.
Students receive a specialised education that is tailored to the needs of the music industry. Graduates are given every opportunity to advance their careers as professional performers on the international stage after studying with internationally acclaimed academic staff. They may also choose to specialise in Concert Management, Stage Management, or Music Critique. Graduates also have advanced knowledge of at least one other foreign language in addition to English, which enhances their professional credentials. Graduates may work as soloists in symphony orchestras, opera and ballet companies, or pursue a career in academia. They may also find employment in one of the many branches of the music industry.
