Program description
Students can access a variety of courses, double major and minor programmes because the department offers joint courses with the Department of Tourism Management. All classes and laboratories are outfitted with cutting-edge computer systems, making instruction both effective and relevant to the current state of the tourism industry. English is the language of instruction. Students can also learn a second foreign language (such as Russian, German, or French), which gives them the option of becoming tourism guides in these languages. Students can also become acquainted with IT programmes commonly used in the tourism and travel industries, such as Computer Assisted Reservation Systems and Central Reservation Systems. They can also participate in short and long-term internships and education abroad through the Erasmus Student Exchange Programme. Furthermore, the Yaşar University Department of Tourism Management is a member of the European Network of Universities of Applied Sciences in Tourism (ACEEPT) and has participated in annual conferences and seminars held in various countries over the last five years.
Graduates of this programme can work in travel agencies or start their own businesses. Tourist guides may work in tourism offices or museums in touristic areas, introducing local and international tourists to the historical culture and natural heritage. There is an increasing demand for tourist guides, particularly those who can assist Russian, German, or Chinese tourists, who are travelling in greater numbers, creating a plethora of opportunities for graduates who are fluent in a variety of foreign languages or who can speak the less commonly spoken languages. To summarise, graduates of this department can work as professional tourist guides for international travel agencies, local and regional travel agencies, transportation companies, or independent tour operators.
