Program description
Memorial University's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science offers thesis-based graduate programmes leading to master of engineering (MEng) degrees in Electrical Engineering.
For tasks such as mathematical analysis (MAPLE and MATLAB), electric circuit simulation (SPICE, PSPICE, electronics workbench), VLSI and FPGA design (Synopsys, Cadence, and Xilinx), and software design, students in both computer and electrical engineering have access to a wide range of engineering software (Rational Rose, Visual Paradigm and Microsoft development tools). The Instrumentation Control and Automation (INCA) Centre, the Computer Engineering Research Laboratories (comprising the Centre for Digital Hardware Applications Research, the Software Engineering Research Laboratory, the Multimedia Communications and Remote Sensing Laboratory, the Computer-Aided Design Laboratory for Analog and Mixed Signal VLSI Systems, and the Power Devices Research Laboratory) and the Advanced Wireless Communications Research Laboratory (AWCRL) are among the special facilities. There are also research facilities available through industrial and government collaborations.
Program structure
The MEng program normally takes two years to complete and students are required to complete at least four courses, a seminar course and a thesis.

Requirements for applicants
To be considered for admission to a MEng program, the minimum requirements will normally be a second-class degree in an appropriate area of study from a university of recognized standing.
Applicants who did not complete a baccalaureate or post-graduate degree at a recognized university where English is the primary language of instruction must normally complete either the:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and achieve a paper-based score of 580 (or higher), computer-based score of 237 (or higher), or internet-based score of 92-93 (or higher); or
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and achieve a score of 7 (or higher).
