Program description

Memorial University's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science offers thesis-based graduate programmes leading to master of engineering (M.Eng.) degree in process engineering. The programmes' concentration is on research areas in processing and utilising various natural resources to develop various high-value added goods in a safe and sustainable manner.

Chemical and biochemical conversion of natural resources (forestry, food processing, oil and gas, and mineral industries) into useful intermediate industrial chemicals and ultimately end products; green recovery of valuable metals from low grade ores; contaminant removal (desulfurization, deoxygentation, etc.) from solid fuels, crude oil, and natural gas; modelling, design, and simulation

Program structure

Areas of ongoing research in process engineering include:

  • design/development of processes to convert waste to bio-fuels and bio-products
  • safety and risk engineering
  • biochemical conversion processes
  • sustainability engineering
  • waste to energy
  • process modelling and control of the processing plants

Degree Requirements

The M.Eng. program normally takes two years to complete and students are required to complete at least four courses, a seminar course and a thesis.

Price

  • Tuition — 9,666 CAD
