Program description
Building capacity to meet the global and local transition to sustainability in the 21st century is an urgent and difficult job that demands creative collaborations and the integration of diverse knowledge. The PhD program in Transdisciplinary Sustainability (TRSU) seeks to make a significant contribution to the study and resolution of complex ecological-social-economic-political concerns by capitalizing on the particular assets of Grenfell Campus and its School of Science and the Environment.
Using a multidisciplinary approach, this curriculum prepares students to comprehend and undertake research on sustainability challenges (i.e. drawing on a broad combination of disciplines and collaborating with external partners). Core TRSU courses emphasize holistic concepts of sustainability, complex systems, sustainability science, disciplinary reflection, transdisciplinary research techniques, team science, and knowledge co-production with stakeholders. A program that is both organized and adaptable allows students to follow their particular sustainability-related interests.
