Recent Years

Seneca programs have been held in numerous locations, but the next significant growth took place in 1999 with the establishment of the Seneca@York Campus, which is the first college campus situated on university property.

Seneca opened its Markham Campus in 2005. This distinctive campus, formerly a 10-story office structure, is situated in Markham's commercial sector, which is home to the corporate headquarters of numerous international and domestic companies.

Seneca also provides community-based services from its smaller campuses in Yorkgate, Vaughan, and Newmarket.

The environmentally friendly A+ Building, which has more classrooms, study spaces, and gathering places in addition to a new building entrance, was officially opened in 2011 on the Newnham Campus.

In January 2014, the Peterborough Aviation Campus hosted classes for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Aviation Technology program. Seneca's aviation department was housed at the Buttonville Airport for over 40 years, but the airport's owners declared they intended to close it. This prompted the creation of the new campus. A brand-new, cutting-edge campus may be found at the Peterborough Municipal Airport.

The Future

Provincial financing was granted to the Future King Campus with the aim of revitalizing the campus through the modernization of existing facilities, the construction of additional student space, and the expansion of programming related to health and community services, paths, the natural environment, and sustainability. The Seneca Student Federation, the Student Athletic Association, and the Ontario government have partnered to make the $100+ million infrastructure expansion project at the Campus feasible. The 200,000 square foot Magna Hall, so called in honor of Magna International's $3 million commitment to the Campaign for King Campus, is already under construction. In addition to housing 1,500 more students, it will have 25 classrooms, labs, a library, a student center, a gymnasium, and fitness centers.

Seneca has started construction on the Center for Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (CITE) at Newnham Campus.

With financial backing from the federal and provincial governments, CITE aims to consolidate student and business-led entrepreneurial activity, specialized training, and applied research and commercialization under one roof.

It will have labs, classrooms, and an indigenously designed presenting gallery. Additionally, small-to-medium-sized businesses from North Toronto and the York Region will have access to the facility's maker spaces, labs, equipment, and research knowledge, along with space and entrepreneurial supports, to assist them increase their capacity for innovation.

At Newnham Campus, work has also begun on a new artificial turf field with several uses and a seasonal dome. Through space rentals, it will benefit Seneca Summer Camps, the community, and both varsity and recreational programs. The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program and financing from the Student Athletic Association made it feasible.
