About the university
The International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef / Bonn (IFH) was established in 1998; the first class of 23 students enrolled during the 2000–2001 academic year.
Since 1999, the institution has had official state recognition, and in 2009 and 2021, it received accreditation from the German Science and Humanities Council.
The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) accredits the degree programs on the university's behalf on the German Accreditation Council's behalf, and the university's internal quality management ("system accreditation") is also accredited.

Accreditations & rankings
- FIBAA – Excellence in Digital Education
One of the first German universities of applied sciences to acquire FIBAA's Premium quality label in "Excellence in Digital Education" is IU. Future Orientation, Knowledge Management, Teaching Quality Assurance, and Student Academic Support were our strengths.
- System Accreditation
We’re system accredited by FIBAA according to the specifications set out by the German Accreditation Council. Our quality management system met their standards in 2018 and we were accredited for 7 years.
- Program accreditation
Our system accreditation lets us accredit our programs. Our programs are trusted to hold the Accreditation Seal without external agency involvement.
- German Council of Sciences and Humanities
In 2021, the German Council of Sciences and Humanities reaccredited IU for five years. Since 1957, the German Council of Sciences and Humanities has advised federal and state governments on higher education development, science, and research, as well as non-state university teaching and research quality.
- ZFU (German National Agency for Distance Learning)
The Distance Learning Protection Act (FernUSG) monitoring authority ZFU approves all our distance learning study programs and specific training courses.
